WHO WE ARE

At Sunny Street Books, we're dedicated to creating books for a special group of readers: seniors with dementia who still find joy in beautiful photos, uplifting stories, and the act of simply holding a book and turning the pages. 

​

Seniors with eyesight or strength challenges who find it difficult to hold a heavy book or read long paragraphs of text will also enjoy our books. The majority of our books are 6" x 9" softcovers of approximately 40 pages that are comfortable to hold and easy to tuck into a bag. Long, frustrating paragraphs of text are often difficult for seniors and people with dementia to deal with, so our books generally have minimal text, or no text at all.

OUR PHILOSOPHY

We respect our readers. Therefore, we believe our books should be as beautifully designed as books meant for a more general readership. Our picture books are filled with carefully-curated, high-resolution photos, and our illustrated short stories are written by a professional novelist to be simple and uncomplicated without being childish.

THE EXPERIENCE

​

Reading Sunny Street Books is a calming experience that encourages interaction, so it's an excellent activity for seniors with dementia. Caregivers can share our books with those they care for. Children can also interact with a relative with dementia by reading a Sunny Street book to them.

 

Books from Sunny Street never mention Alzheimer’s disease, dementia, or any other challenges the reader may be facing. Our books can be given as gifts without fear that the recipient might feel embarrassed or offended, and the reader can feel comfortable sharing them with a friend.
